Load the frosting sheet into your edible-ink-compatible inkjet printer just like regular paper. Print your design using Kopykake Edible Inks only. Make sure your printer has never been used with standard ink cartridges — once a printer has had regular ink, it cannot be used for edible printing.
1. Frost your cake with a smooth layer of white icing (buttercream or fondant works best).
2. Let the icing set until slightly tacky — not dry.
3. Peel the printed frosting sheet from its backing paper.
4. Place the sheet face-up onto the icing, starting from one edge and gently laying it down to avoid air bubbles.
5. Smooth gently with a dry, clean spatula or your hands (wear food-safe gloves).
6. Allow the sheet to bond with the icing for 30–60 minutes before serving.
Yes. Lightly brush the fondant surface with water or a thin layer of vegetable shortening before applying the sheet. This helps the sheet adhere smoothly.
Once applied, the printed design will blend into the icing and remain vibrant for 24–48 hours. For best results, apply the sheet as close to serving time as possible. Avoid refrigerating a cake with a frosting sheet applied, as condensation can cause the image to blur.
This can happen if the sheets were exposed to heat or moisture during shipping. Gently separate them at the edges. If they won't separate cleanly, contact us for a replacement — we stand behind our products.
Yes. Frosting Sheets can be cut with scissors, a craft knife, or food-safe cutters before or after printing. For circles and common shapes, we offer pre-cut options (2" Circles, 3" Circles, 6" Round, 8" Round, Business Card, and more).
We recommend Canon inkjet printers for edible printing — they're the easiest to set up and most compatible with our edible inks. Epson also works well. The key rule: the printer must be brand new (or thoroughly cleaned) and dedicated exclusively to edible inks. Never switch a printer between regular and edible ink.
KakePrints is Kopykake's free design software built specifically for decorating with our Frosting Sheets. It includes all of our sheet shapes and sizes as templates, so you can design and print with perfect alignment every time. No subscription, no hidden fees.
